One of the best vacation activities to embark upon while on the island is kayaking. In a kayak you can paddle with ease up some of the local rivers and access parts of the island that would otherwise been inaccessible.
Ocean kayaking can be dangerous so be careful if you are planning on renting kayaks and going out on your own. People don't anticipate how difficult it is to take off and land in an ocean kayak. There are some great alternatives to setting out into the ocean though. There are several shops that you can rent kayaks at from on the north shore in Hanalei. Once you have your kayak you can drop right into the Hanalei River and go on a romantic paddle upstream through the jungle.
We recommend:
If you travel to the Wailua River on the east side of the island (click here to see a map) you can rent a kayak and paddle upstream past huts where an old Hawaiian village used to be. If you continue on you can park your kayaks and hike to hundred foot waterfalls with crystal pools that you can swim around in. This is by far one of the most romantic activities Kauai has to offer.
